Cast - Dave Bautista / Los Angeles, 2049: in a hyper-technological and overpopulated city, KD6-3.7 (Ryan Gosling) is a Nexus 8, an improved replicant from the previous Nexus 6 (androids physically humans, but smarter and stronger) that in 2019 they were pursued and retired by special agents named "Blade Runners", who works as a Blade Runner "retiring" the remnants of the Nexus 6, living with a lovely home hologram named Joi (Ana de Armas) as only one company. In his last case to locate and retire a replicant named Sapper Morton (Dave Bautista), "K" finds traces of a burial close to Morton's home, and he unearths a mysterious box where are discovered the mortal remains of Rachael (Sean Young), a replicant who was missing since 2019 after she fled with Blade Runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford). Discovering the impossible that Rachael was pregnant, and that possibly her child could be alive, Lieutenant Joshi (Robin Wright) orders "K" to find and destroy Rachael's descendant before the news is known to the public eye, and it causes a mass hysteria. But this revelation is known by blind scientist Niander Wallace (Jared Leto), owner of Wallace Corporation, creator and manufacturer of the Nexus 8 (heir of the previous Tyrell Corporation that manufactured the Nexus 6 that had collapsed during a world blackout in 2022), who is obsessed to create replicants able to bring new life. Unknown to "K", Wallace orders his personal assistant, a Nexus 8 named Luv (Sylvia Hoeks), to find Deckard in order to get him to reveal the location of the child he had with Rachael. But the mission gets complicated for "K" when he starts to question his own false memories, wondering if he could be Deckard's child, and not the replicant that he was thought to be. I like good and bonding SciFi-stories, but as the first "Blade Runner" this movie is similiar. It has it's moments, but on the long way to the end it's to long-winded. It sure is a good movie for having a nap with special sounds in background. But i feel, the whole storie is dull. I thought that when the first came out and it's like a dejavu, feeling the same by looking the following part. Beside the dull story, there are logical errors, one can't fail to see. I'm glad to not have spent time in cinema. I just rented it from Amazon and that's enough for me. If there was an urgent flow in the plot, i could turn a blind eye. But so I hold the opinion, that "Blade Runner 2049" is just over-rated. This should be nearly as good as "Alien. Interstellar. 2001" No, sure not.

So I am always one to give films a try and ill watching anything despite the reviews. This is also my first review on IMDB. With an overall rating of 8 I had high expectations for this Gosling is normally a favourite of mine but his character in this does nothing to engage the audience. Is bland and boring. After an hour and a half I could not tell you of anything excited that happened in this film so I turned it off. I always read reviews saying not to bother with a film and I watch it anyway but seriously, do not watch this. Literally just nothing exciting happens and the character played is so slow and boring.

It's nothing exceptional, not too much deeper than a fun popcorn flick, but entertaining.
The plot revolves around Charlize Theron and her band of immortal mercenaries, who stay off the grid but use their talents in magnanimous and altruistic ways. It was an enjoyable concept which has legs, and was well executed for the most part. The characters had some interesting development and were relatively well fleshed out, if never explored to a completely satisfying level. There were a few good twists which blindsided me, despite the ultimate end being relatively telegraphed. Overall a solid story which was entertaining if never amazing. The performances helped to execute the concept well, with Charlize Theron putting in an expectedly solid performance. There wasn't loads of content for the supporting cast to grapple with in terms of script or depth, but they were solid as well and provided good onscreen partnerships for Charlize.
Really the main attraction of The Old Guard was the action, which was exciting, gritty, and well spread throughout the film. It had a good mix of gun fighting and hand to hard, some unique ish set pieces and an overall fun feel. Looking back though there wasn't anything particularly memorable about the action. It was fun as you were watching it but doesn't have the lasting impact of a John Wick 3 for example. There's also no defining set piece like Extraction or Atomic Blonde, which maybe this film could have done with.
There's nothing spectacular about The Old Guard, but its fun and lively and a good way to spend a couple of hours.
